The Blonds incurable optimism shines throughout their creations. Their in-your-face spectacular fashion will dazzle you. Phillipe and David Blond are the talents behind the NY based fashion house. Their eccentric creations are known for inspiring a new level of glamor to the many fans that worship them and adorning the bodies of many entertainers such as Katy Perry, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Fergie, Rihanna, and Nicky Minaj.
Their latest collection full of every embellishment imaginable was greeted with enthusiasm by both industry insiders as well as Hollywood royalty. “We always enjoy making people happy and entertaining an audience. The point of the show is to take the audience to another place, to inspire them and create an escape.” The Fall/Winter 2012 theme was “Live Fast, Dye Blond” and explores the world of motorbikers. The models were “driving” down the runway in sexy corsets, high-heels sparkling boots and tight body conscious jackets wearing helmets with long blond pony tails.

The Blonds have carefully forged a path in an industry where extreme wearability seems to dominate people's minds, and fantasy has become an ill virtue. Their fan base raves about their designs, a sign that not everyone wants to see catwalks full of midi dresses and boyfriend blazers dressed down with orthopedic pump-like shoes and loafers. In the business of fashion their outlook seems to be about the creative evolutionary process of constantly reinventing the fun part of fashion; “Our goal with every collection is to inspire glamorous living everyday. There are so many ways to add a little sparkle to life whether it's a piece of jewelry, an accessory you love or a Blonds bustier.” One can see a wide range of inspirations in the bedazzling pieces, anything from chain corsetry to glitter-fruit playsuits.
No specific muse is listed as a constant in the process of dreaming up their creations. “We have so many muses. Women first, the female form, and Philippe in both his male and female incarnations.” One might pause to think that this would mean mainly glitzy transwearable outfits for those who desire to go both ways in dressing but the Blonds are very clear on this: “At this point the only thing people have had the opportunity to see is the celebrity costume aspect of the brand. We think it's funny when someone assumes that they're expected to wear what's been created for a show in their everyday lives.” It isn't unimaginable that some Mugleresque-like creations seem unwearable but once pulled apart or styled differently look reasonable for a summer night in South Beach or a glamorous event in New York City.

And don't get it twisted; there are jeans and T-shirts too, in case a corset sounds a bit out of your league.
When asked about the current state of fashion and the fact that designers have become disposable products of big corporations, this is what they had to say: “We think it's amazing to be a part of fashion. It's great for designers and clients to experiment with their style. But just because something is out there doesn't mean people have to buy it.” The duo seems to steer clear of any negativity and The Blonds are flourishing from this position. Conscious of the social surroundings and the responsibilities of fashion, they engage in the eco-green dream carefully testing new territories and trying to switch to sustainable solutions. For example, the F/W 2012 collection included organic materials for the separates. So what for unknown viewers may seem an ode to plastic fantasy, in actuality it is a way to merge fantasy and glamor with a desire to make a conscious step. But that's exactly what the Blonds are all about, bringing the positive to the world.
