“The first time I shot for Calvin Klein I got a call in the middle of a school night on a Wednesday. It was my booker from New York asking if I’d send in some pictures in my CK’s. There wasn’t too much explanation but I figured it was big because it was very late in New York City. After I sent in the photos, I received another call not too long after from Mark, the casting director for Calvin Klein. We discussed plane tickets and where I’d be flying from and early that morning I flew to LA and shot for their global advertisement campaign. They bleached my hair upon arrival, which I didn’t mind, and I flew back home the next day. ”

Have you always had natural curly hair? I sure have. From the time I was born my baby head had a full head of curly baby hair. I get my hair genetics from my moms side of the family. Oddly enough though the last three generations of my moms family are Caucasian and aren’t really sure of their genetic makeup. One of these days I’m going to get a DNA test to see where my ancestors are from so I finally have an answer to the question of where I get my hair from.
What are some career goals you’ve set for yourself this year?
It’s hard to set feasible goals in regards to the modeling industry be- cause it is based around something that is constantly changing and that is fashion. With new styles, new seasons, new designers, new casting directors, and new opinions, a specific brand might want a completely new and unique face representing their brand or a classic look. Cast- ing directors and clients opinions on what type of face they would like representing their brand changes all the time. As Heidi Klum, host of lifetime’s Project Runway would say “one day you’re in, the next day you’re out.”
What would you be doing if you weren’t a model?
Ultimately I started modeling to get my foot in the door into the acting industry. I did theater acting from the time I was young in my hometown. So I would like to think if I didn’t get into the industry through modeling, I would have tried the more conventional way. Regardless I would still like to go to school and study film production and move to LA within the next few years.
What’s your favorite thing about being a model?
It’s hard to say because there are so many good things as well as not- so-good things. I would have to say that my favorite thing is working with creative people onset who allow me to step inside of their mind’s vision and become sort of an actor of emotion through body language and facial expression. I also enjoy traveling and meeting guys my same age who are going through the same struggles and adventures. I’m able to find so many good friends that I will honestly keep in contact with from all around the world for the rest of my life.
