Galatea Bellugi made it on the big stage at the Theatre du Soleil with encouragement from her parents, who had already had a foot in the entertainment business. The twenty-five-year-old says of her first experience, "It was terrifying to be on the big stage, but it was also invigorating!" This excitement grew louder, giving her the growth she needed to continue a fruitful career as an actress—landing a role in Les Yeux Clairs (Pale Eyes), directed by Jérôme Bonnell. In 2019 she was nominated at the César for Promising Actress for starring in The Apparition. Now Galatea is bringing the heat to her latest role, La fille d' Albino Rodrigue, directed by Christine Dory. We expect great things from this busy actress.

Vestal __ I understand you were born in Paris to an Italian family. Your father is a stage actor, and your mother is a film costume designer. What was it like growing up with parents in the entertainment industry?

Galatea Bellugi __ It was very inspiring. My parents wanted my sister and I to keep studying at school and that we had the opportunity to do something different than acting, if we wanted to. One day my sister and I overhead my parents discussing that they needed children on the stage of Theatre du Soleil so we asked if we could participate. Soon after, we started rehearsals to be a part of one of the plays. It was terrifying to be on the big stage, but it was also invigorating.

VM __ Can you tell me about your first acting role? Do you remember how the experience was?

GB __ My first acting role was a small part, one scene, in Les Yeux Clairs (Pale Eyes) directed by Jérôme Bonnell. I was seven years old at the time. I loved seeing the adults around doing their thing. It encouraged me to do better at the time.

VM __ Your big debut came in 2015 when film director Guillaume Senez chose you to play Mélanie in Keeper, did you have to audition for the role?

GB __ I did a few auditions for the role of Melanie. What was unique about this movie was that Guillaume didn’t want us to read the script. We did only improvisations.

VM __ You starred in Repairing the Living. Can you tell us about the character you play?

GB __ It was a great experience to be part of Repairing the Living because Katell Quillévéré is a great director. I play the character of Simon's girlfriend, a young surfer who dies. His parents are in the dilemma of making him an organ donor or not. I am pleased to be part of a movie with such a fantastic cast.

VM __ You were chosen by Oscar winner and film director Gabriele Salvatores in The Invisible Boy-Second Generation, where you play Natasha. What was it like working with such a talented director as Gabriele?

GB __ It is incredible to work with a director you admire. The Invisible Boy was a great experience because Gabriele Salvatores taught me a lot. It was my first experience with special effects. I was throwing fireballs, can you believe that?

VM __ In 2019 you were nominated as most promising actress at the Cesar for The Apparition.

GB __ I called my sister Alba-Gaia. We are very close. She gives me the best advice.

Total look DIOR.

VM __ You are now starring in La fille d' Albino Rodrigue, set to release soon. Christine Dory directs it, and the first film by Jean Baptiste Durant,Chien de la casse. How are you preparing for all this success you are having?

GB __ Honestly I only hope people will like the movies.

VM __ What is your favorite thing about acting?

GB __ I like to play when the camera is rolling and get into the life of somebody else. I also like all the preparation for a role. For example, I went to a monastery for a few days to prepare for the movie L'apparition, directed by Xavier Giannoli.

VM __ You have a solid career. Any advice for aspiring actors looking to break into the business?

GB __ Thank you. It is hard to give advice because acting is a profession that is so unpredictable. You might get a role because you fit the idea the director has for a character but not necessarily because you were the best to act that day. The only advice I could give is to acknowledge that it is hard, so don’t give up when you have doubts.
